Founded in Sacramento in 1933, Golden 1 Credit Union is member-owned and not-for-profit, with a “people helping people” philosophy. On Golden 1’s first day of service nearly 90 years ago, their vision was to help hard-working Californians live their best financial lives. Today, the organization has grown to be one of the largest credit unions in the nation, with over $18 billion in assets delivering financial solutions with value, convenience and exceptional service to their more than 1 million members throughout California.
Golden 1 offers more than just lower rates on loans, higher returns on savings and low to no fees. Through supplemental dividends, charitable investments and emergency loans in times of crises throughout the past several decades, Golden 1 has cultivated a sense of belonging and enhanced the financial well-being of members and diverse communities. Major accomplishments throughout the past 90 years include expanding membership eligibility to all Californians, growth of overall membership and assets, launch of home loans and dealer services, founding of a corporate giving program, $38 million in member give-backs, and obtaining naming rights to Golden 1 Center.
“Since day one, Golden 1 members and the communities we serve have been at the heart of our organization.” — Donna Bland, President & CEO
Golden 1 President and CEO Donna Bland has been an integral part of the organization’s industry leadership in exceptional service, employee engagement, community support and responsible financial management. She serves on the board for the Greater Sacramento Economic Council and has been deeply committed to ensuring Golden 1 gives back to the communities they serve. Bland has brought structure and continually enhanced Golden 1’s corporate giving program throughout the past decade. The program annually contributes more than $1.5 million through grant and scholarship programs, food bank donations, help for homeless youth and more.
“Since day one, Golden 1 members and the communities we serve have been at the heart of our organization,” Bland says. “What began in 1933 has continuously grown stronger for 90 incredible years and the best is yet to come. We are proud of our Sacramento-region roots and feel fortunate to be a local success story. As we continue to grow throughout California and achieve national recognition, our commitment to serving the Sacramento region and being a part of others’ success stories has never been deeper.”
