Historically, public accounting has been a male-dominated field. However, today in the U.S., women represent nearly 60% of CPAs and about 40% of the industry’s leadership positions.
Women have long been hired, valued, mentored, and promoted at Gilbert CPAs — currently with more female shareholders and managers than most other firms locally and nationally, and with more than 50% women in the firm’s partner and management groups.
“Gilbert has consistently embraced and supported employees of all backgrounds and career goals,” says ACT Director Aspen Cloud. “I was attracted to the firm because they don’t want everyone to be the same and don’t expect all staff to have the same backgrounds or to want the same career trajectories. This has enabled many of us in leadership to choose our own career paths within the firm, which likely has kept many talented people — including women — at Gilbert who might have left public accounting otherwise.”
Gilbert offers a great deal of flexibility in both schedules and hours to employees with families to ease the balance of work and family life. As an example, Cloud notes, “My daughter was born prematurely and the firm made every effort to help me make the transition back to work manageable and to allow me the flexibility to care for her.”

Cloud was on a reduced schedule for nearly six years while her children were young. Cloud explains that she was able to scale back her work hours and responsibilities while still feeling like she was adding value to her clients and the firm. When she felt ready to resume full-time hours, Gilbert made that work, too.
After speaking with Aspen, it is clear that Gilbert CPAs offers all their employees great opportunities and support to build rewarding careers with their balance of personal life. They provide full service public accounting services to their clients backed by a great team of accountants and staff who are proud to work there.
