“My passion is women’s health care and caring for all women, no matter what insurance they have, what background they have, or where they come from,” says Dr. Jennifer Overbey, M.D., chief of obstetrics and gynecology at Dignity Health Methodist Hospital of Sacramento. “I feel that too many times women are not heard, so I really listen to my patients and am committed to providing them with excellent health care and a great patient experience.”
After medical school and residency in Detroit, Overbey came to California to build her career and has been with Methodist Hospital for nearly 16 years. In addition to her role as chief of obstetrics and gynecology at the hospital, her leadership qualities earned her the position of division head of obstetrics and gynecology for Mercy Medical Group.
“I’m always looking for ways to improve myself, my team, and all of our services,” says Overbey. “I also strive to make our work environment very collegial and to build great rapport with other physicians, our nurses, and our entire team. I’m known for being able to rally everyone together and get them on board with our goals, but also for listening to their feedback along the way.”

Overbey is instrumental in Methodist Hospital’s OBED, a specialty emergency department for pregnant and postpartum women, the first within the Dignity Health system and one of only three in the Greater Sacramento region. “We ensure that all women from the second trimester all the way through six weeks postpartum receive expedient care from board-certified or board-eligible OB-GYN physicians no matter who they are or where they’re from,” she says. “We know that certain ethnicities have higher maternal mortality rates, so our OBED helps promote health equity for all.”
Overbey is a trailblazer, an asset to Methodist Hospital, and beloved by her community and colleagues. She, alongside Dignity Health, are committed to providing the best care for all women.
