As one of the top advisory, assurance and tax firms in the United States, CohnReznick has been part of the Sacramento business community for two decades. Since the mid-1980s, the firm has been a leader in the community development industry — an industry committed to improving the lives of minority and underserved populations.
CohnReznick advises developers, investors, lenders and others on ways to finance real estate projects through federal and state tax credit programs like the Low-Income Housing and New Markets Tax Credit programs. These programs help spur affordable housing development, turn dilapidated buildings into vibrant mixed use spaces, and create new classrooms and community health centers.
Partner Beth Mullen, who relocated to Sacramento in 2003 to open the firm’s Capitol Mall office, oversees CohnReznick’s largest practice: affordable housing. On leading a practice with more than 10,000 clients and 750 professionals, Mullen says, “We are proud to support an incredible group of clients working every day to improve the entire community development ecosystem.”
CohnReznick’s commitment to fairness and equity extends beyond housing to the way it runs its own house. Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) are foundational to CohnReznick’s hiring practices and how it supports its many stakeholders.
The firm’s D&I National Council promotes diversity across all areas of the firm including talent development, supplier relationships and accountability at the corporate and local office level. CohnReznick currently has eight Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), led by employee champions, which work to promote inclusivity, allyship and community through networking and professional development.
Earlier this year, the 2024 Vault Accounting 25 Survey, which rates the best accounting firms to work for, ranked CohnReznick among the top five firms on three key diversity measures, including overall diversity.
“Maintaining a workplace culture that advances DEIB is central to our purpose as a firm,” says Sacramento Office Managing Partner Eric Jones. “But it’s more than that. Fostering an inclusive culture and a workforce composed of employees with diverse backgrounds, experiences and opinions makes us a stronger organization and enhances the value we deliver to our clients.”
