Calling all creatives in Sacramento and beyond! The second annual CMND SHFT event will be kicking off Aug. 13 at the Guild Theater in Oak Park. Originally conceived of as a day of design-centered movies at the Crest Theater downtown, the event has already grown into so much more, says Sacramento-based graphic designer and CMND SHFT’s event partner, Benjamin Della Rosa.
There hasn’t been an event like this for nearly 10 years in the Sacramento community; “It grew out of this idea of reaching out to the creative community,” he says. The day will include films, live podcast recordings and talks from graphic designers and people in the creative community. Tickets are set at $45 for general admission.
“Designers, artists … we had Roshaun and Maritza [Davis] from Unseen Heroes just kind of talking about what it’s like to be a creative in Sacramento and what that looks like, and how you interact with your city, and what your work does to impact the city,” Della Rosa says. “We wanted to really bring the focus of what this event is to what’s going on locally. We want it to be very Sacramento-focused, and not just a conference that takes place in Sacramento.”
In addition to 6 local speakers, the 2016 CMND SHFT design conference will include Mark Brickey of the Adventures in Design podcast and Tad Carpenter, a Kansas-based designer who has worked with companies such as Target, Coca Cola, Macy’s, Old Navy, Conan O’Brien and MTV. Vendors will be tabling all day, with an after party at Empress Tavern to follow. Read more about the event and register today at http://cmndshft.com.
