Court Appointed Special Advocates of Sacramento County (CASA Sacramento) ensures consistency and support for children in the foster care system through volunteer advocates advancing each child’s best interests. These compassionate and dedicated adults work with youth who have been removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect and support them through the court process and on a path to being reunified with their families or another form of permanency.
“CASA Sacramento strives to serve all children needing an advocate in Sacramento County, whether they are in foster care or before the juvenile court,” says Executive Director Carol Noreen. “We engage with schools, courts, child welfare agents and foster families to expedite positive outcomes for the youth we serve.”
CASA Sacramento is always in need of responsible, caring volunteers to advocate on behalf of foster youth. CASA volunteers, ages 21 and up, go through an application and interview process, background screening, and undergo 40 hours of training before taking an oath of service in the juvenile court. “Our volunteers meet with their youth weekly, and we ask for a commitment of five to 10 hours per month and a minimum of 18 months,” says Noreen.

CASA Sacramento is grateful for their enduring relationship with Bank of Marin. “They’ve been supporting our programming and expansion of services to more kids for several years now,” explains Noreen. The organization is especially appreciative of Bank of Marin’s Greater Sacramento Market Manager Kymla Birchette, who gives her all as a CASA Sacramento board member and in the core volunteer role of court appointed special advocate.
“We encourage anyone age 21 and up to view our website, sacramentocasa.org, to learn about becoming a volunteer and initiate the application process,” says Noreen. “We also welcome financial contributions to help sustain and expand our services. Please join us in serving the children who need us the most.”
