At a time when business is being redefined, some of the Capital Region’s most effective executives are leading with instinct, balance and an innate ability to sniff out opportunities.
Comstock’s magazine has been showcasing the region’s most prominent women in leadership, young professionals and family businesses for more than a decade. We now recognize that there is another class of business influencers who have so far been left out of the spotlight — those graced with fur and feathers. To that end, we are inaugurating a new leadership showcase, focused on highlighting the talents of the Capital Region Creature Suite, otherwise known as the C-Suite.
Since announcing the nomination period for this new showcase, we have received a biodiverse range of nominees from around the Capital Region. We would like to share some of these nominees to illustrate some of the key criteria we are looking for. To send in your own nomination, please post your C-Suite leader of choice on social media and tag us on Instagram, Facebook or X.
We are also open to nominations for human leaders aged 40 and under for our annual Young Professionals showcase. Send in your nomination by April 15 here.
Luna
Executive assistant, Institute for Local Government
Luna reports directly to Erica L. Manuel (left), CEO and executive director of the Institute for Local Government. She holds considerable influence in her position, joining Zoom meetings with leaders around the state to hear concerns and propose solutions. Her project proposals have already created positive change in communities across California, including the Sunny Spot pilot, an initiative to provide public buildings with access to relaxation spaces with strategically directed sunlight.
Bodhi and Tulip
Deputy and CEO, the Butterfly Group
Tulip (right) was known as Capital Region business royalty before she sadly passed March 5. Her firm, the Butterfly Group (a play on the English translation of her French family name, Papillon), was the quiet force behind many of the region’s biggest deals. While Tulip will be missed, her protege Bodhi, also of the Papillon family, has been well trained as deputy CEO and is ready to roll over into the new role.
Theodore “Scout” “Teddy” Roosevelt and Snickers Marie
Archeologists
This independent team is behind some of the Capital Region’s most prominent archeological discoveries. Theodore Roosevelt leads their daring expeditions, while Snickers Marie writes papers on their findings and presents them for publication. Their combined efforts, including the recent excavation of a large stick of unknown provenance, have given us a better understanding of the history of our region.
Mizithra Brown
Journalist
An intrepid investigative reporter trained at the prestigious Clawlumbia University, Mizithra’s impact on the local journalism scene can be described as none other than explosive. Her recent exposé on exploitation in the legalized catnip industry sent shockwaves through the region. This is an experienced journalist who isn’t afraid of putting in the pawwork.
The Riverside Council
Sacramento State University
This legacy organization has held significant and visible sway at Sacramento State since it moved to its riverside campus in 1952. In addition to conducting meetings on academic affairs, the council is active in the university’s cultural life, holding frequent dance performances that are free and open to the public.
The Bridge Patrol
American River Parkway
This grassroots organization is a quiet force behind the recent rehabilitation of the American River Parkway. Their headquarters under Pipe’s Bridge now has over three dozen employees who are skilled at fundraising and make efficient use of charitable donations from around the region.
