When a community organization thrives for four decades, evolution becomes part of its legacy. This year, Sacramento Neighborhood Housing Services marks that moment with a return: after years of operating as NeighborWorks Sacramento, the organization is reclaiming its full legal name. Serving 13 counties across California, SNHS is proving that empowerment takes many forms, and its newest expression opens that door wider than ever. Legacy Studio, a professional podcast and media production facility, is opening inside SNHS’s Sacramento headquarters.

SNHS President and CEO Lauretta Casimir-Mahoney chose the name with intention. “Legacy” reflects the way the institution is being strengthened and the leaders being developed. The studio extends that same conviction outward, putting broadcast-quality tools directly in the hands of community voices who have always had something to say. 

Housing takes sustainable income, and sustainable income in 2026 looks different than it did in 1986. Podcasting is a real economic pathway. As Casimir-Mahoney says, “People are community.” Projects like Legacy Studio prove that innovation in community development does not always happen through construction; sometimes it happens through voice.
