Since 1944, the family-owned company George Reed, Inc. has been improving communities by providing top-notch asphalt, aggregate and construction services.
“We believe better roads make for better lives. Since the founding of this country, the transportation infrastructure has been key to prosperity, and we want to play our part as best as we can to maintain and modernize it.” Margaret Reed, President, George Reed, Inc.
With offices in Modesto, Sonora and Sacramento, George Reed builds public and private infrastructure projects throughout the Central Valley. They also produce and deliver aggregate and asphalt materials for road paving and offer emergency repair services after natural disasters like fires, floods and earthquakes.
President Margaret Reed attributes the success and quality of services to founders George and Rose Reed, who established the business based on integrity and respect.
“As a family company, we have carried this philosophy throughout four generations of history,” she says.
George Reed, Inc. is the flagship company of Reed Family Companies, which includes pavement preservation contractor VSS International, ready-mix concrete supplier 7-11 Materials, and equipment manufacturer Reed International.
In 2023, George Reed embarked on Sacramento’s Broadway Complete Streets Project to make the Broadway corridor safer and more inviting for pedestrians and bicyclists. They also improved Grant Line Road by widening it from two to four lanes, adding traffic signals, and building a detached bike lane, earning them an American Public Works Association Project of the Year Award.
“These are just some of our projects highlighting our ability to work well with agencies and the community,” Reed says. “I appreciate our team’s daily effort to improve our local infrastructure. We are proud of all the projects that George Reed has delivered that we drive over every day.”
The Reed impact goes beyond roads, as the team actively participates in local volunteer work, like the American Heart Association Hard Hats with Heart Sacramento chapter.
“None of what we do would be possible without our incredible people who have dedicated their careers to making our business successful,” Reed says. “Over 900 employee families are supported in this endeavor and we take that responsibility seriously.”
