With a revitalized Main Street, thriving culinary and retail scenes, and a vibrant calendar of festivals, Elk Grove offers a blend of small-town charm and modern amenities.
“Elk Grove provides a welcoming atmosphere with an inclusive, family-oriented feel,” says Aaryn Val, executive director of Explore Elk Grove. “It’s an ideal destination for those seeking a quieter lifestyle while close to amenities in Sacramento.”
Explore Elk Grove promotes unique attributes of the community and provides resources for navigating your visit to the city, including a 24-hour itinerary. “Start your day with a casual hike or bike ride,” suggests Val, highlighting options like the 122-acre Elk Grove Park and the 56-acre District56 campus, home to a dozen works of art. “Then, enjoy brunch or coffee. Jamie’s Cafe is a great option along with the new Tule Coffeehouse.” Since opening in April 2024, Tule, nestled in historic Elk Grove, is always bustling with a line out the door on the weekends. Elk Grove also has a thriving shopping scene with the popular new Americana Vintage, offering vintage clothing and refurbished furniture. “The shop founder also organizes markets in Elk Grove and Sacramento,” says Val.
“Elk Grove is committed to offering diverse dining, shopping, outdoor recreation, local arts and culture, and fostering a welcoming community for residents and visitors alike.”— Aaryn Val, Executive Director
In the evening, visitors can explore local wineries and breweries, including the nine-year-old Flatland Brewing Company, and the family-owned McConnell Estates Winery and Christopher Cellars. Dining options range from sushi at Umai Bar & Grill, fine dining at local favorites Sheldon Inn and Boulevard Bistro, Chinese dishes at Journey to the Dumpling, and numerous authentic Korean BBQ spots.
Elk Grove is “an innovative community with a focus on inclusion” featuring several female and BIPOC-owned businesses, including the new Ever After Wine, co-owned by two women who met while attending a local middle school 20 years ago. Natural wines are poured and events include Thursday tastings and live music on some Sundays.
The city will celebrate its continued growth with its 25th anniversary this July. New developments include the 59,000-square-foot CORE Recreation Center and The Village Shopping Center, to include Whole Foods Market, Mendocino Farms and Yard House; the expansion of Sky River Casino; the Elk Grove-Sacramento Zoo relocation project; and other exciting economic development opportunities on the horizon.
