Alternatives Pregnancy Center in Sacramento is a pro-Gospel, pro-woman, pro-life women’s health clinic. We are 100% donor-supported and accept no government funding, providing all of our services free of charge to the community. Our OB/GYN clinic is run by doctors and nurses who administer ultrasounds, prenatal care, contraception education, well-woman visits, breast exams, gynecological care, STD testing/treatment, and abortion pill reversal services.
“Our medical team views the women that we serve as more than just patients — they see them as uniquely created in God’s image, deserving of holistic care that reflects who they are spiritually, emotionally and physically.”— Heidi Matzke Executive Director, Alternatives Pregnancy Center
Our free parenting program offers pregnant moms support and encouragement through the first year of their baby’s life. Our Baby Boutique — stocked with clothes, diapers, formula and other infant supplies — provides our patients with the material resources to succeed in their parenting journeys. Alternatives regularly partners with local churches to host baby showers for pregnant patients who need the added support of a loving community in addition to material blessings as they prepare for motherhood. Our additional resources include lactation courses and post-abortive healing classes.
All of this is free of charge.
“Everyone who walks through the doors of our brand-new, state-of-the-art 7,000-square-foot medical clinic is welcomed by compassionate staff and vibrant furniture — expressions of our desire to serve and bless each individual who crosses our path,” says Executive Director Heidi Matzke. “From our follow-up care to our bedside manner, we are committed to providing individualized care and a holistic experience for every patient.”
“In the past two years, Alternatives Pregnancy Center has given away nearly $4 million-worth of free medical care and resources to patients, totaling 4,264 appointments with an average five-star rating on patient exit surveys,” Matzke continues. “Women continually report that they view our clinic as a safe, judgment-free space, regardless of their past and future choices, experiences and backgrounds.”
“We believe that every woman, man and child has inherent dignity and worth, including the baby in the womb,” she says. “Regardless of size, age, gender, social status, origin, risks or placement, the Scripture reveals that every life matters to God. Our call to protect all life is a responsibility we do not take lightly. … We believe we have been planted in this state during this unique season of American history to love others as Christ first loved us.”
“We couldn’t do any of this without donors who believe in our mission and have a desire to be part of offering hope through their finances, prayers and volunteer hours,” Matzke says. “As a nonprofit with no income from payments, insurance or government grants, our doors are kept open by those who believe women deserve access to care that doesn’t financially benefit from any decision they might make — critical care they may not be able to obtain or afford elsewhere.”
Our clinic has earned its reputation through the stories of the women that we serve. A woman came to us whose baby was diagnosed with a serious case of spina-bifida. The Alternatives team helped her schedule a successful prenatal surgery to place the baby’s spine back into its body. We were able to visit her in the hospital, throw her a baby shower, and help her as she parents her beautiful baby boy.
It is the joy in this new mother’s heart and the precious life of this child that urges us to do what we do.
A woman who walks through our doors is not a number. Underprivileged and underserved women are shown the dignity, respect and love they deserve, and their God-given gift of intelligence and autonomy is respected by every single one of our medical professionals. Serving them is our joy and we are privileged to sit with each woman and hear her share her heart, her fears and her dreams. To be that listening ear and source of understanding and compassion is a gift we treasure.
