California Water Service provides water utility services to 2.1 million people in communities and service areas throughout California, including Stockton, Dixon, Marysville, Oroville, Chico and Travis Air Force Base in the Greater Sacramento region. As a regulated water utility, Cal Water provides safe, clean, reliable water to customers, but also goes beyond that with a defined purpose to enhance the quality of life for its customers, communities and employees.
Celebrating 100 years of service this year, Cal Water’s mission is to be the leading provider of sustainable water utility services, with a focus on quality, reliability and affordability. Cal Water performs timely and ongoing care of its infrastructure for securing, treating, testing, storing and delivering water that meets all federal and state standards. Proactively maintaining and upgrading its infrastructure keeps its systems reliable and reduces costs in the long run, providing a better value to customers.
Regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission, Cal Water conducts more than 600,000 water quality tests for around 300 contaminants annually. In another proactive measure, the utility has prioritized treating for PFAS compounds ahead of government deadlines. Cal Water has long had these newly EPA-regulated compounds on its radar and has been testing for them before it was required. Water utilities have until 2029 to meet the standards, but with Cal Water’s treatment facilities already starting to come online, it is well-positioned to comply long before that deadline. Cal Water’s customers’ health and safety are its highest priority.
From large urban areas to small rural areas and affluent areas to low-income areas, Cal Water serves each customer with equal commitment. The utility offers customer assistance programs, scholarships, grants and volunteer efforts with the intention of improving quality of life in its communities.
Most people don’t think about where their daily water comes from, and for 100 years, Cal Water has been working to ensure customers don’t need to. Its commitment to customers has guided the company for the past century and with that continued focus, Cal Water looks forward to serving its communities for the next 100 years and beyond.
