I tip based on the experience I receive. If the guy pouring my coffee makes it a point to get a smile out of me, he went the extra mile. If my server at dinner gives me excellent recommendations and goes out of their way to make my experience exemplary, they will be compensated for it. I don't pay their wages and neither do you. It shouldn't matter what they make hourly. I generally don't pick and choose the businesses I decide to support based on whether I believe their employees make too much money. Tipping is a sign of gratitude and appreciation (hence, gratuity). You get back what you put forth, just like anything else in life.
