Comstock’s aims to have a diverse newsroom in order to present broader and more nuanced coverage of the Capital Region. We launched the Media Makers Project in 2020 to help achieve that goal. As part of the project, we connect with local universities and colleges to invite journalism students to freelance for us. We’re especially interested in working with students who are part of communities that remain underrepresented in the media.

Students are paid and work closely with the editorial team to develop their reporting and writing skills. It’s both an opportunity for the students to write for a professional publication and to diversify the field of journalism beyond Comstock’s newsroom as they launch into their careers.
