SCG National – Workshop ll with Ruth Ellen Hoag | Considering Edges

Blue Line Arts

Back Event Aug 20 @ 10 am By Maddy Harlow

A two-day workshop to promote attention to edges and their importance to the success of a painting. What kinds of edges do artists use to define, refine, or combine spaces and shapes? Awareness of how to handle edges can make or break a composition. This workshop will provide ways of discovering what is meant by active and passive, hard and soft, and lost and found edges, and how to use them. Recognizing it is a skill to be acquired and we’ll look at well-known artists’ work, enabling participants to glean an awareness and impose it into their own work.

Participants will leave with a library of exercises and examples of the concepts covered for reference in their own studio practice.

Workshop open to artists working in watercolor, acrylic and collage on paper. Level of experience: beginners with some proficiency and understanding of the medium, and all other levels of experience. There will be PowerPoint presentations and painting demonstrations. Participants are asked bring samples of their work to class.

All materials included.
