“Architecture is a team sport that depends on collaboration and diverse viewpoints, including those of women,” says Beth Young, principal and Sacramento office director of HGA. “I’ve seen the industry’s landscape change, with more women hired and more women promoted to leadership positions, and HGA is at the leading edge of that evolution.”

With twice the national average of women in construction, the employee-owners at general contractor Hensel Phelps believe they can grow only by challenging each other to think and act differently.

In 2018, Josh Estrella and partner Joel Leineke launched their company Utilion with a vision of providing quality infrastructure construction services through multiple subcontractors in various trades at a corporate price.

With a creative vision, architect Maria Ogrydziak has lent her skill and talent to Paul’s Place, an innovative project tackling one of today’s biggest humanitarian crises — homelessness. “I knew that architecture could help make great strides toward a solution to homelessness in the city of Davis,” she says.
