Cheryl Holben was appointed in 2009 by the City of Sacramento to serve on the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission. She served for two years as vice chair and became chair of the commission in July 2014. She is the immediate past chair of Friends of the Arts Commission and is a board member of the Verge Center for the Arts.
Professionally, Holben has owned an interior design business for 20 years, specializing in residential interiors. Additionally, she served for five years on the Center for Contemporary Arts, Sacramento board, including two as president. During that time, she founded the Capital Artist Studio Tour. Holben lives in East Sacramento with her husband, Chris, and two daughters, Celeste and Jacqueline.

During meetings this past fall, Jeff Koons’ “Coloring Book” was approved by six of seven members of the ESC art panel and seven of eight Sacramento Metropolitan Arts commissioners. Two panel members and three commissioners were absent for the respective votes. I was the only dissenting vote in both cases.
