“Jim and Jack’s legacy is an inspiration — the belief in engaging deeply with clients and community, commitment to employee well-being, desire for lifelong learning and our commitment to one another.” Naaz Alikhan Managing Principal
Founding principals Jim Williams and Jack Paddon have a friendship dating back beyond the firm’s 40 years. The two launched the firm in Roseville and spearheaded the industry in the region. Today, the roots that grew from the philosophies of both Williams and Paddon remain strong.
“Great architecture is inseparable from community, in product and process,” says Williams, now retired. “Individual buildings are always in a context of community and best design results from synthesizing input from all involved in a project’s creation: the client, project team, governmental agencies and community members. We tried to instill commitment to community into our people from the beginning.”
“Architecture is about community and humanity,” Paddon adds. “Singular buildings form neighborhoods and cities as shelter for life. My natural surroundings, daylighting and buildings that can breathe drive my approach to design and architecture. Most buildings should be well designed and ego free, tucked under a healthy urban forest canopy. Civic buildings should stand with confidence as a reflection of their community and not the creator. Sustainability, resilience, longevity, carbon neutrality must be integral connections to natural elements.”
Looking ahead, managing principal Naaz Alikhan says, “Jim and Jack’s legacy is an inspiration — the belief in engaging deeply with clients and community, commitment to employee well-being, desire for lifelong learning and our commitment to one another. We look forward to the growth of all our staff, the advancement of our future leaders, the establishment of what are now fledgling markets and the continuation of established markets.”
