Community-owned Roseville Electric Utility has served Roseville with a reputation for reliable service and low rates for more than 100 years. Traditionally, electric utilities have been male-dominated realms, but at Roseville Electric, women are working to change that.
“We now have women in customer service, finance, power supply, legislative, and compliance leadership roles,” says Joanna Cucchi, financial administrator. “Those of us in management positions have been working to bring along more women and help them forge their own paths to the organization’s upper levels.”

Roseville Electric has always been a lean-running organization and that can be advantageous for career growth. “Our size enables us to wear many different hats, learn about different areas within the organization, and have a seat at the table in many meetings,” says Petra Wallace, power supply manager. “We are exposed to a variety of work and that can lead to more advancement opportunities.”
In addition to mentoring offered through the City of Roseville, the women of Roseville Electric are encouraged to participate in outside training and development opportunities, some of which are specific to women.
A group of women representing a range of positions and levels with Roseville Electric recently attended the American Public Power Association’s Women in Public Power conference in Reno. Cucchi says, “It’s inspiring to see so many women in the industry in one place.”
Many also participate in the Sacramento-based membership organization California Women in Energy and attend that group’s functions.
Roseville Electric Utility welcomes and encourages women to join the team and build rewarding careers serving the community’s need for safe, reliable, and affordable energy.
