Now celebrating 45 years in business, Medic Ambulance’s story is rich with people, compassion, challenges, innovation, growth and success.
Rudy Manfredi, an EMT in Sacramento, envisioned owning an ambulance service. When he noticed that Berton-Aid Ambulance Service was up for sale in Vallejo, he took the idea to his parents, Harry and Giannina Manfredi. A family of Italian immigrants, the Manfredis had come to the U.S. in search of the American Dream and though they recognized the risk, they also saw the opportunity, and agreed to the purchase. The company became Medic Ambulance Service on June 1, 1979.
“We are grateful for our Solano roots and being a local family-operated, community-focused business is our core.”— Helen Pierson, CEO
In 1998, Medic faced a pivotal moment when Solano County sought an exclusive countywide provider. Through a hard-fought battle, Medic emerged as Solano County’s exclusive ambulance provider and subsequent years marked substantial growth, with an additional 15 ambulances and 100 employees joining in 1999.
“We are grateful for our Solano roots and being a local family-operated, community-focused business is our core,” says Helen Pierson, CEO. “Today, we employ more than 600 talented professionals, operate nearly 200 vehicles and respond to more than 130,000 calls throughout Solano, Sacramento, Yolo, Sutter, El Dorado, Yuba, Placer, Napa and Sonoma Counties. We look forward to another 45 years of unparalleled service and compassion for our communities.”
