M. Neils Engineering, Inc. is celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2025, backed by longstanding and loyal team members, new and repeat clients, and prominent and innovative projects. Michael Neils founded this Sacramento-based electrical engineering firm in 1990 with local industry experience that began in the 1970s. Building on his engineering design expertise, advocacy for state energy codes and national leadership in lighting practice, Neils guided the company to great success over the decades.
In 2018, the company welcomed three principals as part of a gradual ownership transition. Neils has taken an advisory and resource role as he’s transferred leadership to Jesse Bastian, Stuart Lindsay and Nichole Parsons. Says Neils, “The management team and staff excel, assisting clients in developing opportunities and completing projects, often exceeding expectations.”
“I look forward to empowering our employees to be industry leaders who guide our company to further success.” — Jesse Bastian,
President
Specializing in electrical engineering, low-voltage systems design and lighting design, M. Neils supports clients in the health care, K-12 and higher education, public safety and transportation markets. “Our ability to build long-term client relationships, our commitment to understanding their goals and our flexibility and agility to respond to their needs sets us apart,” says Marketing Manager Danielle Neils, Michael’s daughter.
Moving into a future with unpredictable events and changing energy and technology needs, the company is focused on designing resilient infrastructure for projects in all markets. Resilient systems leverage renewable energy and backup power, responding to power interruptions to mitigate losses for clients.
Developing resiliency applies to the M. Neils team as well. Several employees have been with the company for 10 to 20 years, valuing the company culture that prioritizes their needs. “Retaining employees is one of my top goals,” says President Jesse Bastian. “We go out of our way to provide a supportive environment since we couldn’t accomplish what we do without our team of excellent engineers and designers.”
M. Neils will focus on growing the firm’s markets, bringing innovation to projects and supporting clients through California’s energy goals. Internally, the company will work to develop leaders from within. Bastian concludes, “I look forward to empowering our employees to be industry leaders who guide our company to further success.”
