On Oct. 5, the Nehemiah Emerging Leaders Program held a Roast and Toast to honor Doni Blumenstock, co-founder of NELP, at the Sacramento State Alumni Center. The event raised funds to pay tuition costs for the incoming NELP class. NELP is a 10-month professional development program designed to prepare its fellows for effective and ethical leadership.

On Aug. 30, the Sacramento LGBT Community Center hosted their annual Pride Awards fundraiser at the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria in Sacramento. This year 5 individuals were honored as local champions of the LGBT community. The Pride Awards is the biggest fundraiser for the Sacramento LGBT Community Center, whose mission is to create a region where LGBTQ people thrive.
The Wall Ball – Outside the Lines Party for Arts Education
On Aug. 19, the Wide Open Walls mural festival held the inaugural Wall Ball at the 14th Street Warehouse. The mural festival, which launched on Aug. 10, saw over 50 artists put up over 40 murals throughout Sacramento.

August Luncheon
On Aug. 16, the Alliance for Women in Media held their August luncheon at Arden Hills Resort Club and Spa, in Sacramento. Mike Testa, CEO of Visit Sacramento, joined Wes Rhea, CEO of Visit Stockton, for a panel on city identity, attracting new business and becoming a tourist destination. Alliance for Women in Media is the oldest professional association dedicated to advancing women in media and entertainment in the nation; the Sacramento chapter was established in 2012.

On June 24, more than 300 guests and volunteers gathered for the third annual Summer Solstice Dinner & Auction, to benefit the American River Parkway Foundation. Proceeds supported the Parkway Foundation’s programs and efforts to maintain and improve the American River Parkway, including a portion dedicated to youth STEM education through the Campfire Outdoor Education Site.
Wide Open Walls VIP Condensed Gallery
To celebrate the opening of the Wide Open Walls Mural Festival, a VIP Condensed Gallery Reception and Artist Meet and Greet was held on Aug. 11 at Beatnik Studios in downtown Sacramento. Guests and patrons were able to meet the artists participating in the festival and purchase commemorative items and art. Wide Open Walls is a Sacramento-based mural festival, from Aug. 10-20.

My Sister’s House
On July 12, My Sister’s House celebrated their annual “Art with a Heart” fundraiser at the Sierra 2 Center. Proceeds from the evening will help My Sister’s House provide services to Asian and Pacific Islander and other underserved women and children impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking by providing a culturally-appropriate and responsive safe haven, job training and community services.

Greater Sacramento Urban League Unity Ball 2017
Unity Ball 2017, held April 20 at the Hyatt Regency in Sacramento, featured a guest performance from singer Freddie Jackson. Mayor Darrell Steinberg, Sierra Health Foundation President Chet Hewitt and Greater Sacramento Economic Council President and CEO Barry Broome were honorary chairs for an evening of celebration and partnerships.
Habitat for Humanity Hard Hats & High Heels Gala
The 4th annual Habitat for Humanity “Hard Hats & High Heels” fundraiser gala was held April 28 at the Sacramento Railyards. The evening included a collaborative project with local artists, VIP reception, gourmet feast, musical entertainment and high-end live auction led by David Sobon.
California Musical Theatre Broadway Gala
California Music Theatre celebrated its 65-year history of bringing Broadway musical theater to Sacramento at Music Circus and Broadway Sacramento. More than 400 business and community leaders enjoyed a reception and gourmet dinner on May 6, with performances from Jessica Grove, a nationally-recognized Broadway singer, and the CMT Gala Signers. The proceeds from this event support performing arts and education experiences for our community.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation One Party Gala
The annual One Party Gala presented by RV’s of Sacramento on April 22 raised funds and awareness for life-changing research to support those impacted by Type 1 diabetes. The event honored Greg Vaughn, four-time All Star and Major League Baseball player. The event raised $290,000 to help find a cure.
Sacramento State Green & Gold Gala
Sacramento State’s Green & Gold Gala is the university’s annual black tie event celebrating the impact of philanthropy on students’ lives. This year’s celebration, Reflections of Gratitude, raised more than $373,000 for student scholarships and the Emergency Grant Fund program, including $162,000 raised during an 11-minute “fund a need” auction led by David Sobon.
Sacramento City College Centennial Gala
Sacramento City College celebrated its centennial on March 25 with a sold-out gala attended by alumni, faculty, staff, special guests and students. The evening featured entertainment by students from the college’s performing arts department and David Sobon hosted an auction raising $45,000 to support student issues.
American Red Cross: The BASH
The American Red Cross BASH returned to Sacramento on Saturday, March 18, at the McClellan Conference Center to salute 100 years of serving veterans. Attendees dusted off old uniforms, found some scrubs or donned a favorite Hawaiian shirt to honor veterans by supporting the American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces and 100 years of Red Cross service in our community.
KVIE Masterpiece on the River
More than 150 KVIE supporters gathered on April 2 at the home of Marcy Friedman for “Materpiece on the River,” a benefit event celebrating the acclaimed drama series MASTERPIECE on KVIE. The event raised more than $100,000 and will help KVIE continue to bring arts, ideas and adventures to everyone in the region through the integrity of public television.

Altogether the event raised $83,000 for the Placer County Court Appointed Special Advocates to 500 foster children and at-risk youth in Placer County.
