Program, “SACRAMENTO STATE PRESENTATION
YIELDS NATIONAL DBIA STUDENT CHAMPIONSHIP.”
The Sacramento State Construction Management Department recently captured the DBIA Student Competition National Championship in Las Vegas, NV at the 2013 Annual Design-Build Conference & Expo. The team of four students submitted a qualification package to be judged regionally. The team developed a design, cost estimate, schedule and site logistics plan in 7 short days for a Student Residence Hall at the College of William & Mary. After the team submitted their proposal response, one week later they were off to Las Vegas to present their design and construction plan to a panel of six industry professional judges. Come hear a reenactment as the students present their award winning presentation.
Mikael Anderson, PE, Chair - Department of Construction Management: Mr. Anderson has an undergrad degree in CE at Cal Poly, SLO and a Masters in Structural Engineering at UC Davis. Before Mikael came to the Construction Management program he worked for Granite Construction, Cole Yee Schubert Engineers, DPR Construction, and finally Caltrans in the Building Design Division. Mike is a licensed civil engineer and holds a CA General “B” Contractors License. His experience in the industry has allowed him to bring real world expertise to our students. Mikael started as a professor with the program and since then he has helped grow the program into its own department within the College of Engineering at Sacramento State.
Karen Hansen, PhD, DBIA, Associate Professor - Department of Construction Management: Dr. Hansen is a Professor of Civil Engineering and Construction Management at California State University, Sacramento. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Her graduate work consists of a Master of Science in Construction Engineering and Management and a Doctorate in Civil Engineering, both from Stanford University. A former engineering manager at The Boeing Company, Karen has worked as a senior project manager and construction engineer for general contractors in the commercial and industrial sectors. Sac State’s student chapter of DBIA was founded in 2009 with a $25,000 grant from the Charles Pankow Foundation. The grant helped Karen earn the Designated Design-Build Professional certification. She now serves as the chapter’s faculty advisor.
